Framing Our Language to Forge Connections: Make Your Words Matter
On request, in person or via Zoom
Our 2020 election efforts won us an important trifecta in
Washington, but since then our leadership faces new challenges. We can
do even better. This introductory seminar looks at how our language
and ways of framing messages and narratives can connect people who hold
differing values and beliefs.
Using the findings from cognitive scientists and social science research
organizations such as The Frameworks Institute, we want to:
• Moral foundation theory and values: Understand
liberal and conservative conceptual models of morality and values that are at
the core of many of our differences that show how our brains process language,
emotions and images.
• Defining framing, models of framing: Review
the language and narratives that activate more productive ways to bridge the
gap between different worldviews and assumptions on issues like racial justice,
talking about government, climate change, education, health, equity and more.
We will be reviewing metaphors, power words and narratives in published
sources.
• Participate in an exercise to
practice the framing/messaging process with selected real- time issues.
Attendees will receive the examples and links to authoritative research, field
studies, and scholars. Follow-up learning opportunities are available at your
convenience.

On request, in person or via Zoom
This webinar focuses on the groundbreaking work of Professor Robert Cialdini, considered the world expert on persuasion and influence. We will explore his seven principles and review real world examples that apply directly to promoting Democratic and Progressive political goals.
Attendees will have opportunities to experiment with the principles during the webinar.
Design a Compelling Political Website
On request, in person or via Zoom
Your website is the one place in the media where you have complete control of the story. What does it take to create an influential political website?
Our webinar looks at some of the best and the most problematic websites to show you the ways to create pages that people want to visit and will remember. The webinar emphasizes good design and planning practices. We will also look at the relationship of websites to other forms of social media, and the relative effectiveness of various media channels, citing field research. Based on attendee interest there is an option for a second webinar to build a demonstration website step-by-step in a typical website builder application.
Vote Tripling: Leverage Relationships to Raise Voter Turnout
On request, in person or via Zoom
Door-to-door canvassing is intensive. Postal mailers head for the waste bin. Phone bank calls are screened and blocked. We are all in social media overload. But we do listen to our friends, and we read text messages from our friends.
Everyone looks at test messages. Our webinar looks at a clever way to engage reliable voters to opt into a texting system that will alert them to remind three friends to vote. This technique can be applied throughout an election cycle and is ready when you need it at "get out the vote" time. We will feature the innovative work of the Vote Tripling project, and guide your organization to make contact so you can see the process in action. Studies will be shared that confirm the efficacy of the methodology.
Script Writing Workshop: The Message is Everything
On request, in person or via Zoom
Learn the three types of political scripts and when to use them in each election phase.
Work with real examples of Voter ID and persuasion.
Develop your own scripts in our interactive workshop!
